Why Cleanse Your Colon?

The most logical answer to why you should cleanse your colon is simply, “because it needs to be cleaned”.

The digestive system of humans is not able to handle all of the toxins in our environment today.

  • We ingest toxins in the form of preservatives and chemical additives in our food.
  • We inhale them in the form of particulates or gases in the air we breathe.
  • Our skin absorbs chemicals from many of the lotions and other preparations we slather on ourselves.
  • And then we hope our body can find a way to eliminate these toxic wastes.

Some of them get lodged in the walls of your stomach and intestines and actually need a good scrubbing to get the crusty mass removed so it can be expelled when you cleanse the colon.

Proponents of colon cleansing believe that toxins from your gastrointestinal tract can cause a variety of health problems, such as arthritis, allergies and asthma. They say that colon cleansing — also called colonic irrigation — removes these toxins, thus promoting healthy intestinal bacteria, boosting your energy and enhancing your immune system.

While there is little scientific evidence to support or refute the benefits of colon cleansing, critics say it’s generally unnecessary and at times may even be harmful. Although doctors prescribe colon cleansing as preparation for medical procedures such as colonoscopy, most don’t recommend it for detoxification. Their reasoning is simple: The digestive system and bowel naturally eliminate waste material and bacteria — your body doesn’t need enemas or special diets or pills to do this.

So how do you scrub or clean the insides of your digestive system (my unofficial definition of a colon cleanse)?

With fiber and colon cleansers and lots of water to flush them out.
